  • England boss, Gareth Southgate, has emerged as one of the favourites to replace Erik ten Hag
  • The Dutchman is facing an uncertain future at Man United and could be sacked this summer
  • This is ten Hag's second season in charge of the Old Trafford side, having arrived in 2022

Manchester United stars' feelings on the club replacing Erik ten Hag with Gareth Southgate have been made clear.

Ten Hag is facing a daunting task of keeping his job at Old Trafford following a mixed run of form and results across competitions.

United were eliminated from the Champions League in the group stages and failed to successfully defend the Carabao Cup, which was won by rivals, Liverpool.

In the Premier League, the Manchester club have endured their fair share of challenges, with the side currently facing the prospect of missing out on a top-four finish.

The Red Devils' only realistic route to ending the season with a trophy is the FA Cup, where they have booked a place in the semi-finals after they saw off Liverpool in the quarter-finals.

Be that as it may, ten Hag is understood to be facing an uncertain future at the Theatre of Dreams, with a section of fans calling for his sacking.

According to the Daily Star, United co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has shortlisted Southgate as the Dutchman's possible successor.

Do Man United stars want Southgate?

Incidentally, United senior players are said to have welcomed the idea of having Southgate in charge if ten Hag is sacked.

The Mirror claims that the playing camp would welcome the prospect of having the English boss manage them.

The publication adds that Southgate already has a relationship with a number of United stars, having worked with some of them during his seven-year spell in charge of the Three Lions.

His current contract with the national team is due to expire later this year after the European Championships. However, United are likely to try and lure him in the summer.

Arteta to coach Man United?

Previously, Sports Brief also reported on a bizarre claim by Rio Ferdinand linking Mikel Arteta with the Old Trafford job.

The Arsenal manager has enjoyed a successful spell with the club since taking charge as manager after Unai Emery's exit.
