The South African national team could soon be gunning for a new coach if Hugo Broos decides to ditch Bafana Bafana for a new project.

The Belgian manager led Bafana Bafana to a third-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The former Cameroon national team coach recently confirmed that he was close to leaving his post as Bafana Bafana manager after the conclusion of the African championships.

With Broos' decision to stay as South African national team coach still shaky, Sports Brief highlights managers who could replace the Belgian tactician.

Coaches in line to replace Broos

1. Pitso Mosimane

Mosimane is arguably the best South African tactician in the game, as his success with Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly is still being discussed till today.

He once coached the national team in 2010 after working as an assistant to Carlos Alberto Parreira during the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

The current Abha Club's coach could be the missing piece to South Africa's dominance in Africa.

2. Rulani Mokwena

Mokwena is rated as one of the best coaches in African club football due to his fantastic job at Mamelodi Sundowns.

He has won the last three Premier Soccer League titles and the inaugural edition of the African Football League in 2023.

Mokwena is already a success as the South African national team is comprised mainly of Sundowns players, and it will be easy for him to slot in as Broos' replacement.

3. Herve Renard

The French coach is known for his success in African football, having won the AFCON title twice with two different teams.

Aside from winning the AFCON twice, he has managed African nations, including Zambia, Morocco, Angola, and Ivory Coast.

The former Saudi Arabian national team mentor works as France Women's team coach and could be a perfect successor for Broos if the Belgian leaves.

4. Benni McCarthy

McCarthy, who is a legend of the South African national team, is another perfect fit for Broos' replacement in Bafana Bafana.

The Manchester United first-team coach is also interested in becoming his country's national team head coach.

The former FC Porto striker has coaching experience in the PSL, having manager Cape Town City and AmaZulu.

5. Helman Mkhalele

Mkhalele is currently the assistant to Broos and would be the first person to be considered for the job if the former Club Brugge manager decides to leave his post.

The former Bafana Bafana star holds the record of being the most decorated South African in AFCON history with four medals.

Broos shakes up Bafana FIFA series' squad

Sports Brief earlier reported that Broos introduced 10 new players into his 23-man squad for the upcoming FIFA Series friendlies this month.

Three players are yet to earn caps, as most were not part of the bronze-winning AFCON 2023 squad.

The FIFA Series initiative aims to offer member associations like South Africa increased playing opportunities.
