  • Rulani Mokwena and Mamelodi Sundowns are in outstanding form
  • He says results would get praise if they were given to the Soweto giants
  • Masandawana are unbeaten in the DStv Premiership this season

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has said his side's current run of results would be appreciated by both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

Sundowns have strengthened their grip in the DStv Premiership and are on track to win it for the seventh successive time.

Masandawana are top of the PSL with a commanding 13-point lead over Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United, having played two games less.

They have won 14 of their 18 matches and have not lost a league match this season. Moreover, they have not tasted a league defeat in 42 games.

Mokwena thinks his team's results would be appreciated more by the Soweto giants.

"I think you’re correct to say if you were to give the current results to any one of the Soweto giants, I think there would be a little bit more appreciation, but okay it is what it is," he said via iDiski Times.

The young coach understands that he has to keep winning at the club.

“I’m under a lot of pressure, I have to win every game, I have to win. But that is the nature of the business, you know, you have to win.”

Mokwena and Sundowns have won the first African Football League. The league is theirs to lose, and they're in the quarters of the Nedbank Cup and CAF Champions League.

Hugo Broos responds to Mokwena

Sports Biref earlier reported on South Africa coach Hugo Broos responding to Mokwena after the Sundowns coach voiced his discontent about injuries to his players.

Mokwena said goalkeeper Ronwen Williams and midfielder Teboho Mokoena have struggled with injuries after returning from the 2023 AFCON.

Broos was unhappy with the way Mokwena expressed his opinion on the matter.

Mokwena says Lorch has settled

Sports Brief also reported that Mokwena shared his thoughts on Lorch's first few weeks at the club after joining from Orlando Pirates.

He was one of the four players signed alongside Zuko Mdunyelwa, Matias Esquivel, and Tashreeq Matthews. He bagged a brace when they beat Maritzburg United in the Nedbank Cup.
