  • The Udinese goalkeeper continues to silence the doubters
  • A former Nigeria international is pleased with his growth

Former Nigeria goalkeeper Alloy Agu has heaped praise on Udinese and Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye following a series of impressive showings in the Serie A.

Okoye has not played for his country since the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, but his performances in Italy are attracting attention.

Okoye has found his feet since moving to Udinese from Warford last summer. He has not looked back since he was cyberbullied after Nigeria's exit from the 2021 AFCON.

Agu is delighted with the way Okoye has picked himself up in Italy.

“I am delighted that Maduka Okoye has found his form back with Udinese in the Serie A. It’s not really easy but he’s been able to motivate himself which is gradually paying dividends for him," he told Complete Sports.

The former Sparta Rotterdam goalie has cemented the No. 1 spot in Udinese and Agu thinks a Super Eagles call-up isn't far away.

“His consistency for Udinese is something I am proud of and I know that it’s just a matter of time that he will be be recalled to the Super Eagles."

Okoye's superb performance against Lazio

Sports Brief earlier reported on Okoye's incredible display vs Lazio in the Serie A away from home on March 11.

The 24-year-old was superb as his side picked up just their third win since December. He made six saves, 20 passes, and two successful long balls.

After warming the bench in the team's first 17 league matches, he has started the last 12 and played every single minute.

Okoye's Ambition for Nigeria

Sports Brief earlier reported on Okoye expressing his desire to play for Nigeria after a prolonged absence.

The young goalkeeper will have to battle for the Super Eagles' number one spot with Stanley Nwabali, who stole the headlines at the 2023 AFCON.

Okoye started three of Nigeria’s four games at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon and was at fault for Tunisia's goal in the Round of 16, which the Super Eagles lost.
