He was booked for dissent four minutes earlier after trying to distract the visitors from taking a quick free-kick. He was rightfully sent off for the big one.

Sports Brief looks at five other players who received red cards for removing their shirts.

Players sent off for removing shirts

1. Vincent Aboubakar

Aboubakar scored a late winner for Cameroon in their 1-0 win over Brazil at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. It was his last action of the game and the tournament. The referee, Ismail Elfath, shook him before sending him off for removing his shirt. The win was not enough, and the Indomitable Lions crashed out. Per Optajoe, he was the first player to score and be sent off at a World Cup after Zinedine Zidane in the 2006 final.

2. Oumar Diakite

Oumar Diakite scored an extra-time winner to help hosts Ivory Coast beat Mali 2-1 in the 2023 AFCON quarter-final. He was overjoyed, took off his shirt to celebrate, and was sent off. As spotted by LK Sportif, Wilfred Singo tried stopping him to no avail.

3. Arkadiusz Milik

Polish forward Milik was sent off for Juventus against Salernitana in 2022. He took off his shirt after a last-minute winner. Per Football Italia, the goal was incorrectly ruled out for offside by VAR. A melee broke out afterwards, leading to three more red cards for Massimiliano Allegri, Juan Cuadrado and Federico Fazio. The game ended 2-2

4. Szabolcs Huszti

Huszti scored a late winner for Hannover 96 against Weirder Bremen in the 2012/13 Bundesliga season. He took off his shirt and jumped into the crowd to celebrate. The referee deemed it two separate offences. He was booked for each and sent off.

5. James Vaughan

James Vaughan thought he had given Huddersfield Town a 95th-minute winner against Norwich City in 2015. He took off his shirt and was sent off for a second yellow card. His woes were compounded when the Canaries equalised, and the game ended 2-2.

Amad Diallo explains goal celebration

Sports Brief reported on Diallo opening up on his goal celebration after for Man Utd against Liverpool, which got him sent off in the match's closing stages.

The Ivorian was sent off with a second yellow card after taking off his shirt to celebrate. He admitted he had forgotten he had a yellow for dissent five minutes to his goal.
