  • Otto Addo has been named as the new Ghana national team coach
  • The Ghana Football Association offered him a 34-month contract
  • Ghana has found a new manager after sacking Chris Hughton

The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association has given the green light to the recommendation made by the five-member Black Stars Head Coach search committee to appoint Otto Addo as Ghana's next coach.

This decision comes after an extensive yet conclusive emergency meeting of the Executive Council on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

The Council received the report from the search committee, headed by Vice President Mark Addo, for further discussion and consideration.

As a result, the GFA has successfully negotiated with Bundesliga powerhouse Borussia Dortmund for Addo to be released to assume the position.

As reported by Myjoyonline, the 50-year-old will be presented with a 34-month contract, with the possibility of extending it for an additional 24 months.

GFA president reacts to Addo's reappointment

GFA president Kurt Okraku provided insight into the rationale behind naming Addo as the new coach of the four-time African champions.

"Otto was exceptional in the interview process and was rated highly by the search committee, hence the decision," President Simeon-Okraku told ghanafa.org
"There were some brilliant individuals among the coaches who applied for the job, so the committee took the pain to interview a chunk of them to pick their thoughts on their intentions to transform the team within a short period of time due to our peculiar situation"
"The Committee was overly satisfied with Otto's performance for which reason he was recommended to the Executive Council for approval," President Simeon-Okraku added.

Borussia Dortmund has granted Otto permission to join Ghana for the March international window. Following this, he will return to the club to formally hand over his duties and assume the coaching position permanently in May of this year.

Ghana sack Hughton after AFCON

Earlier, Sports Brief reported when Ghana sacked coach Chris Hughton after the Black Stars crashed out of the Africa Cup of Nations at the group stage.

The four-time AFCON winners failed to win a single game in Ivory Coast, losing one and drawing their last two group games to get booted out eventually.

Ghana slumped to a 2-1 defeat by Cape Verde in their opening match and then drew with Egypt and Mozambique, losing out based on other results.
