According to the Daily Post, the NFF Technical Committee will meet on Thursday, March 14, to deliberate over the candidates who have applied for the Super Eagles job.

After deliberation, the committee is expected to make its recommendation to the NFF executive committee which is then going to announce the new Super Eagles coach after conducting interviews with the top candidates.

Top coaches like Emmanuel Amuneke, Finidi George, Daniel Amokachi, Samson Siasia, as well as former Cameroon head coach Antonio Conceicao are in the running for the Super Eagles job.

Emmanuel Amuneke is a fan favourite

Meanwhile, many Nigerians will prefer to see former Nigeria Under-17 manager Amuneke emerge as the successor to Peseiro as the Super Eagles coach, Punch NG reports.

The former Barcelona winger is one of over ten coaches who applied to become Nigeria’s next coach and fans believe he has the qualities to bring out the best from the current Super Eagles squad.

Amuneke was part of Nigeria’s team that won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations as a player, and he also guided the Golden Eaglets to win the FIFA Under-17 World Cup as coach in 2015.

Bonfrere Jo backs Amuneke

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Super Eagles coach Jo Bonfrere says Nigeria needs a local coach and Amuneke fits the bill to take over as the next gaffer of the national team.

Bonfrere, who coached the Nigeria side that won the gold medal in football at the 1996 Olympics, stressed that the former Barcelona player has a strong mentality and is a proven winner.

The next Super Eagles coach will be tasked with winning the 2025 AFCON and qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
