Sergio Conceicao, the manager of FC Porto, has levelled accusations against Mikel Arteta, alleging disrespect during their UEFA Champions League clash with Arsenal at the Emirates.

Conceicao, who has attracted interest from several top European clubs, claims that his Spanish counterpart, seated on the Gunners' bench, insulted his family during the match.

Arteta vs Conceicao feud

Tensions between the two coaches had been brewing since the first leg of their encounter.

Arteta initiated the exchange by implying in his post-match comments that Conceicao's Porto side had shown little intent to play, opting for a defensive approach.

According to GOAL, Conceicao responded by defending his team's approach, stating that they were determined to win.

This exchange set the stage for a heated second leg, where both teams vied for a spot in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Despite maintaining composure on the touchline, Arteta's side narrowly edged out the Portuguese giants in a penalty shootout, with Leandro Trossard's late first-half goal failing to separate the teams.

Following Porto's elimination, Conceicao criticised the 41-year-old former Manchester City assistant manager for what he perceived as excessive behaviour during the match.

“Arteta turned to the bench during the game and insulted my family in Spanish,” the 49-year-old tactician said as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
He continued: “I told him that the person he insulted is no longer among us”.
“Let him worry about training his team, which has more than enough quality to play a lot better”.

Arsenal join UCL quarter-final train

The lineup for the quarter-finals of the 2023-24 UEFA Champions League is nearly set, featuring prominent teams such as Arsenal and Barcelona, as reported by Sports Brief.

After a prolonged wait, Arsenal secured their spot in the quarter-finals on Tuesday night, triumphing over Porto in a thrilling penalty shootout. This marks Arsenal's first appearance in the Champions League quarter-finals since 2010.
