The football spotlight in Nigeria remains fixed on discussions surrounding the coaching situation of the Super Eagles.

Following the encouraging performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the team's coach, Jose Peseiro, announced his departure upon the expiration of his contract.

The search for a new coach for the team has officially begun, with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announcing the vacancy on social media.

However, as discussions intensify over who should lead the Nigerian team next, the U-23 manager of Fleetwood Town, Ayere Sylvester, has offered advice to the country's Football Federation on what must be done to maintain the positive momentum from the AFCON.

Fleetwood Town coach offers advice

During a conversation with Sports Brief, the Dubai-based coach discussed ways in which the NFF can ensure the Super Eagles build on the success of the AFCON.

Emphasising the key areas for improvement, he highlighted,

"In coaching, every successful team must excel in four aspects of gameplay: defence, attack, midfield, and the transition between attack and defence, as well as defence to attack."
“The NFF must give the next Nigerian coach enough time to work on these four areas so the players can get used to it. At the AFCON, the Super Eagles were really good at defending and getting back into position. But they struggled a bit when they were attacking."
"The Nigerian team needs to improve how they move in the attacking part of the field, and giving the coaches more time will help with that."

Concluding, the coach suggested that if the next Nigeria coach is given the time to address the attacking setup, just as Peseiro did with the defensive vulnerabilities, Nigeria could become an unstoppable force.

Why Amunike should be Nigeria’s next coach

In another report, Sports Brief highlighted several reasons why Emmanuel Amunike should be the coach of the Nigerian national team.

The 53-year-old is widely regarded as the ideal candidate to secure the job as the Super Eagles' next coach.

Amunike has consistently expressed his earnest desire to take on the coaching responsibilities for Nigeria.
