Real Madrid star, Brahim Diaz, has decided to represent Morocco at the international level after getting tired of waiting for an invite from the Spanish national team.

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder has represented Spain in all junior categories, from Under-17 to U19 and U21, but has yet to be called to represent La Roja.

According to the Daily Post, Diaz, who was born in Malaga to Spanish parents, qualifies to represent Morocco through his grandfather, who hails from the North African country.

The Real Madrid player will now play alongside fellow Spanish-born Moroccan superstar, Achraf Hakimi, who also chose to represent the Atlas Lions at the international level.

Diaz has become one of Los Blancos’ stand-out players this season under Carlo Ancelotti after a slow start to the season, netting six goals in all competitions for the La Liga leaders since his return to the club from AC Milan in the summer.

How Morocco convinced Diaz

Meanwhile, the Morocco Football Federation played an immense role in convincing Diaz to pledge his allegiance to the Atlas Lions despite representing Spain at youth level, GOAL reports.

FA president and Moroccan minister delegate for the budget, Fouzi Lekjaa, met and convinced the Real Madrid attacker to commit his future to Morocco rather than continue waiting for Spain.

Diaz will have the opportunity to make his international debut for Morocco against Angola on March 22, if he is called up to the Atlas Lions' squad in the next international window in two weeks.

Diaz scores wonderful solo goal

Earlier, Sports Brief also reported on Brahim Diaz's amazing solo goal scored to give Los Blancos the lead against RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

The 24-year-old winger orchestrated a moment of brilliance to break the stalemate with a goal that has been likened to Lionel Messi’s trademark run.

After receiving a pass from Dani Carvajal, Diaz deftly evaded a defender before manoeuvring his way into the penalty area and unleashing his strike.
