Al Ahly beat Zamalek 2-0 on Friday, March 8, to win the Egyptian Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Goals from Imam Ashour and Mohamed Afsha helped the Egyptian giants win a record-extending 39th Egyptian Cup final.

Former AS Roma and Manchester United has compared Al Ahly to Real Madrid.

The fixture was the first Egyptian Cup held outside of the North African country. The derby clash was tight and was goalless until the 84th minute.

Ajhsour and Afsha's late goals were enough to give Al Ahly another trophy to add to their vast cabinet, per CAF.

Al Ahly have won three of the last four CAF Champions League titles. The Egyptian side has won 11 continental crowns. No other team has won more than five.

Al Ahly are Africa's most successful club. Aside from those continental titles, Al Ahly have won 43 league titles, establishing themselves as the biggest club in Africa, per Reuters.

Mourinho lauds Al Ahly

Surprisingly, Jose Mourinho was following the proceedings at the Al Waleed Park Stadium closely. The legendary coach was an analyst for the match.

“Al Ahly are maybe the Real Madrid of Africa. The amount of titles they won is incredible. Even the amount of times they participated in the Club World Cup and competed with international teams, Mourinho said vis King Fut.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan coach lauded Egypt legend Mohamed Aboutrika.

“If I am not wrong, a player that I was always in love with was playing for Al Ahly was [Mohamed] Aboutrika. I loved him.”

Mourinho presents Egypt Cup title

Sports Brief earlier reported on Mourinho carrying the Egyptian Cup trophy alongside Brazil legend Ronaldo Nazario.

To the surprise of millions of football fans across the world, the trio of Mourinho, Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazario and Roma legend Francesco Totti were present for the opening ceremony.
