  • Harry Kane scored thrice as Bayern Munich hammered Mainz 8-1 on Saturday
  • Kane scored two goals in the first half before adding the third after the break
  • Thomas Muller, Jamal Musiala, and Serge Gnabry also scored in the match

Harry Kane's three goals against Mainz in the Bundesliga does not count as a hat-trick due to a bizarre rule.

The Englishman has been in sensational form for Bayern Munich, scoring a brace against Lazio earlier in the week to send his side to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

SPORTbible reports that the former Tottenham Hotspur striker continued with his hot goalscoring streak on Saturday as he found the back of the net three times in Bayern's 8-1 rout over Mainz.

Kane opened the scoring for Thomas Tuchel's side in the 13th minute, with Leon Goretzka doubling the advantage six minutes later.

Kane made it 3-0 on the stroke of half-time before scoring his third in the 70th minute.

Thomas Muller, Jamal Musiala, and Serge Gnabry also scored in between before Kane's third goal.

Why Kane's hat-trick does not count

However, it has now emerged that Kane's goal does not count as a hat-trick.

According to Goal, the forward's goal is not recognised under new German rules, leaving the Englishman searching for his first under the new guidelines.

The publication reports that for it to be a hat-trick, a player needs to score all three goals in the same half and without anyone else scoring in between.

Meanwhile, Kane's treble on Saturday took his tally to 30 Bundesliga goals in just 25 games.

Harry Kane sets two records

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported on Harry Kane proving to be one of Bayern Munich’s best buys.

The England international set two records after finding the back of the net three times against Mainz on Saturday.

He became the first person to score two goals or more in eight games in their debut season in the league.

He also became the first person to score four hat-tricks in his debut season.
