Ashley Du Preez opened the scoring for the Glamour Boys in the 6th minute before Monnapule Saleng equalised in the 24th minute. Du Preez scored late in the first half, giving Chiefs a 2-1 lead at the break.

Thabiso Lebitso's thunderous strike in the 58th minute gave Jose Riveiro's side a well-deserved equaliser. Saleng scored his second 10 minutes later for Buccaneers, which turned out to be the winner.

Pirates secured their first double over their arch-rivals in 15 years.

The win sees Pirates move up to second in the PSL table, four points ahead of their bitter rivals. Mamelodi Sundowns are top of the table, 12 points clear, with three gasmes in hand.

Johnson addresses Petersen row

Speaking after the game, Johnson, said that it was a normal conversation with his player.

“It was just a normal chat with the coach, we lost the game, what do we have to fight? [Yes] it’s normal, did you see Kevin De Bruyne tell Pep Guardiola to shut up? It’s normal, I want my players to react when we lose,” Johnson said via iDiski Times.

He encouraged his players to have a go at him when they have a bad day at the office.

“I want them to react! And if they react to me then I take all that on my shoulders because tomorrow I will fix up whatever the reaction is – then it’s football, I don’t want them to be mouses, they have to be people who come and question you."

Chiefs have a chance to bounce back when they play Cape Town City later this month.

Khumalo blames Johnson

Sports Brief earlier reported on Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo blaming Johnson for the Chiefs defeat to Pirates in the Soweto Derby.

Khumalo criticised Johnson's in-game management, saying they failed to manage the game despite taking the lead twice.
