As noted by BBC, Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball, passed away at the age of 68.

The Dragon Ball series is extremely popular worldwide, and the original manga soon expanded into a television series, games, movies and more.

Created in 1984, the series continues to attract new fans, especially with the loveable Goku as the lead character.

How footballing world paid tribute to Toriyama

Following the news of his passing, social media has been flooded with posts honouring the Japanese artist, with many recalling how Dragon Ball impacted their lives. Football clubs have also taken to X (formerly Twitter) to pay their tributes to the great man.

AC Milan

The Italian outfit chose to remember Toriyama by saying they would try to tackle life with the same energy as Goku.

The Saiyan was known for his infectious personality and attitude toward life.

Juventus

The Old Lady’s tribute was more subtle, focusing instead on their players doing the fusion celebration.

Fusions are one of the ways Dragon Ball characters could increase their power.

Atletico Madrid

Like Juventus, Spanish outfit Atletico focused on a goal celebration.

The club shared a photo of one of their stars doing the Kamehameha, a move made famous by Goku.

Ligue 1

The French league paid tribute by sharing Paris Saint-Germain’s love of Dragon Ball.

The club’s supporters are huge fans of the manga and have had more than one tifo in the crowd before, inspired by the series. They even had Goku repping PSG before.

Tributes pour in for Franz Beckenbeur

Sports Brief previously reported how tributes poured in for Franz Beckenbeur, the German football legend.

The 78-year-old will be remembered as one of football’s all-time greats and won the Ballon d’Or twice.

Beckenbeur captained the German national team to the World Cup title in 1974 and won it as a manager in 1990.
