Mauricio Pochettino's men currently sit 11th in the Premier League standings with just 36 points from 26 games.

Injuries to key players have greatly impacted their season, with Reece James and Christopher Nkunku among the top players who have spent weeks on the sidelines.

The dire situation is said to have left the club with no choice but to enter the market in a bid to strengthen their squad.

Which players does Chelsea want?

According to Metro UK, Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams is top on Chelsea's, transfer wishlist.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a successful season with the Spanish club so far this term, making him one of the highest sought forwards.

The Telegraph adds that the Bilbao ace, who made his first-team breakthrough three years ago, has a release clause of £43 million.

Signing a prolific forward is understood to be a key priority for Chelsea, with Napoli attacker Victor Osimhen and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sseko said to be their top two targets.

Osimhen has courted interest from Premier League clubs, with Arsenal being the other team he has been linked with.

Sseko, meanwhile, was also said to be on Manchester United's radar after a brilliant run in the Bundesliga before the Red Devils opted to sign Rasmus Hojlund.

The former Salzburg ace already scored seven goals in his debut campaign in the German top flight.

Why Tuchel is perfect for Chelsea

Earlier, Sports Brief analysed why Thomas Tuchel is best suited to replace Pochettino at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea will likely have another managerial change ahead of next season if the club's hierarchy decides to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino, should they miss out on European places.
