Renowned for his dazzling skills and mesmerizing dribbling, the Nigerian left an indelible mark on the game and captivated audiences worldwide.

Former Super Eagles coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has added to the legend, revealing that Okocha was the best he ever played alongside during his illustrious career.

Eguavoen, who also made a name for himself as a national team player, was one of the senior team members when the young Okocha joined the roster. As reported by Soccernet, the former Bolton man seemed to leave a lasting impression on his teammate.

The two players shared the pitch for Nigeria's national team 14 times between 1994 and 1998, with five of those matches ending in victory.

Who is Jay Jay Okocha?

Born in Enugu, Nigeria, in 1973, Okocha's journey to the pinnacle of football was paved with determination and natural talent, which he honed in the local leagues before making his professional debut with Enugu Rangers in 1990.

Okocha's big break came in 1998 when he joined Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt, where his performances were nothing short of spectacular. His ability to control the ball and his vision and passing range made him a constant threat to opposing teams.

In 2002, his career reached new heights when he joined Premier League club Bolton Wanderers, where he truly cemented his legacy as one of the most entertaining and skillful players of his generation. His performances were a delight to watch, as he mesmerized defenders with his signature step-overs and audacious flicks.

Beyond his club career, Okocha also distinguishably represented the Nigerian national team, captaining the side and leading them to victory in the 1994 African Cup of Nations, as per Livescore.

Okocha visits Super Eagles camp during AFCON 2023

Sports Brief reported that Okocha visited the Super Eagles camp before their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group A game against hosts Ivory Coast.

Nigeria received the right motivation for the encounter from legend, winning 1-0.

The two teams locked horns lock horns on Thursday, January 18, at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in one of the most-watched fixtures of the tournament.
