  • Saka and Martinelli picked up injuries during Arsenal's clash vs Sheffield United
  • Saka is said to have fallen ill, while Martinelli reportedly suffered a cut on his foot
  • The Gunners currently sit third in the Premier League standings with 61 points

Mikel Arteta has provided injury update on Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli ahead of Arsenal's meeting with Brentford.

The Gunners are scheduled to host the Bees at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, March 9.

The match comes at a time when the north Londoners are enjoying a fine run of form that has seen them secure huge away wins.

According to Metro UK, Arteta's charges recently romped to a 6-0 win over Sheffield United to reinforce their Premier League credentials.

The win has them sitting third in the standings with 61 points, just two points behind leaders Arsenal.

However, the win came at a cost, with Arsenal losing Martinelli and Saka to injury.

Will Saka and Martinelli feature vs Brentford?

Martinelli was forced off in the 63rd minute after he suffered a cut on his foot, with fellow countryman Gabriel Jesus taking his place.

Saka, meanwhile, was replaced at half-time after he reportedly fell a bit sick.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Arteta delivered an update on the duo and said:

"We have some players back last Monday, then we have Martinelli and Bukayo with little issues but we are pretty positive they will be part of that [team]," Arteta said via Sky Sports.
"We have to wait and see how they do tomorrow," he added.

Saka has already scored 16 goals and bagged 15 assists so far this season. He will be hoping to add to his tally should he feature against the Bees this weekend.

Why Arsenal won’t play for 19 days

Sports Brief also reported on why Arsenal will not play competitively for 19 days in March.

After the Porto game, the Gunners’ next game will be against Manchester City on March 31.

This all has to do with the FA Cup fixture schedule, as several Premier League teams are still in the competition.
