  • The immediate future of Victor Osimhen is generating conversations across Europe’s football scenes
  • The Nigerian striker is being courted by a flurry of elite clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea
  • Sports Brief takes a look at reasons why the Super Eagles forward should join Chelsea over Man United

The post-AFCON form of Victor Osimhen has continued to generate a buzz across Europe’s footballing scenes.

The marquee forward, who guided Napoli to their first Scudetto win since the triumph with Diego Maradona in 1990, appeared to have suffered a decline in form in the early stages of the 2023-24 season.

His struggles were exacerbated by his performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where he notably set the record for the most big chances missed at the showpiece.

However, since returning from the tournament, the 25-year-old has rediscovered his scoring touch, netting five goals in four games and providing an assist for Francesco Calzona's team.

This resurgence has reignited speculation linking him to top clubs like Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, with reports even suggesting Manchester United's interest.

Amid these swirling rumours, Sports Brief outlines three compelling reasons why Osimhen should opt for Chelsea over Manchester United.

Why Osimhen should join Chelsea over Man United

Chelsea’s dire need of a striker

Romelu Lukaku's loan move to Roma has left Chelsea with a notable gap in their attacking lineup, as Nicolas Jackson stands as their sole recognised striker. Armando Broja is currently on loan at Fulham, and while Christopher Nkunku shows immense talent, his recurring injuries and lack of natural centre-forward instincts make him a less reliable option.

Osimhen's potential arrival would effectively fill this crucial gap and provide Pochettino with a focal point for his attacking strategies.

Ambitious Chelsea side

Under Pochettino's guidance, Chelsea boasts a young and driven squad. Todd Boehly's ownership has ushered in a wave of new signings, enhancing the team's depth and ambition. Osimhen's potential arrival would further enrich this dynamic group of players.

Joining Chelsea would immerse the Nigerian in a competitive environment, surrounded by teammates eager to showcase their abilities and propel the club to greater heights.

While Manchester United may present its own appeal, Chelsea provides Osimhen with a compelling opportunity to be part of a remarkable journey.

Chelsea's rebuilding plans

Chelsea's current standing at tenth in the league table, coupled with their recent loss to Liverpool in the League Cup final, suggests a team in the midst of a significant transition period.

However, this scenario offers Osimhen an enticing prospect: the chance to be a pivotal figure in an exhilarating rebuilding phase under a new manager renowned for success. His contributions could be instrumental in revitalising the Blues and returning them to their illustrious past.

Mikel on Osimhen’s future

Sports Brief earlier reported John Mikel Obi's claim that Osimhen is contemplating a summer move to Chelsea, as the forward has developed an interest in the English Premier League club.

Numerous clubs, including English heavyweights Chelsea and Arsenal, along with French Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, are reportedly keen on signing the 25-year-old attacker.

Osimhen has impressively scored 11 Serie A goals in 17 appearances this season.
