On Saturday, Ronwen Williams and Stanley Nwabali will face off for the first time since the epic semi-final between South Africa and Nigeria, at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nwabali helped the Super Eagles eliminate Bafana Bafana from the competition, while Williams produced incredible performances throughout the tournament.

Their respective teams, Mamelodi Sundowns and Chippa United, will meet in the DStv Premiership this weekend.

After keeping five clean sheets, the Sundowns goalie won the best goalkeeper award and the Golden Glove. He conceded three goals in South Africa's opening game and the semi-final clash with Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Nwabali, while being a surprise starter for Nigeria, stole the headlines for his superb displays in Ivory Coast. The Chippa United star couldn't prevent the Super Eagles defeat in the 2023 AFCON final against the hosts. Nwabali received a hero's welcome on his return to the club.

The two stars meet for the second time this season. Williams and Masandawana ran out 2-0 winners the last time these two sides met. Sports Brief looks at how the two AFCON heroes compare ahead of their meeting.

Williams' 2023/24 season

Last season, Williams won the PSL Golden Glove after keeping 18 clean sheets in 26 matches for the DStv Premiership champions.

He broke the record held by legendary Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, Moeneeb Josephs, who kept 17 clean sheets in the 2009/10 season, per iDiski Times.

That season was Williams' first campaign with the Brazilians, and it was historic.

This season, he started where he left off. He has kept 10 clean sheets in 13 matches and has helped Sundowns make an astonishing start to the campaign.

Rulani Mokwena's team have won 13 of their 16 PSL matches this season, and drawn the other three. They are attempting to finish the season undefeated.

Williams has kept 23 clean sheets in 30 matches in all competitions. He conceded once in the inaugural African Football League, which they won. The former SuperSport goalie has conceded one goal in the CAF Champions League.

In the PSL, the 32-year-old has conceded just three goals, which is excellent. He kept a clean sheet when Sundowns beat Chilli Boys 2-0 in August 2023.

Nwabali's 2023/24 season

The Super Eagles star joined Chippa United in 2022 and took some time to settle, but has now solidified his spot as the No. 1 goalkeeper at the club.

In his first season, he made six appearances in the league and three in the Nedbank Cup.

This season, he has dislodged Nambia's No. 1, Lloyd Junior Kazapua, from the starting spot. His performances at the 2023 AFCON have helped him become the undisputed No. 1.

The former Lobi Stars has kept eight clean sheets this season in 17 league matches. The Nigerian has conceded 15 goals so far.

Nwabali will be tasked with keeping Sundowns' attackers at bay when they meet on Saturday evening.

Nwabali's first clean sheet after AFCON

Sports Brief also previously reported on Nigerian shot-stopper, Nwabali, keeping his first clean sheet since the conclusion of the 23023 AFCON.

The 27-year-old had a solid outing as the Chilli Boys defeated Richards Bay 3-0 in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday, ending a winless run.
