Liverpool vs. Manchester City Preview

Form Guide

Liverpool will head into their showdown with Manchester City in excellent form.

The Reds have won each of their last four league matches, including a dramatic 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Matchday 27.

Darwin Nunez came to Liverpool's rescue, scoring a last-gasp header deep into second-half stoppage time to give all three points to the Reds.

Manchester City also have been red-hot of late, going unbeaten in their last 10 league matches, recording nine wins and one draw during that span.

They followed up their 3-1 win over Manchester United over the weekend with a similar 3-1 victory over FC Copenhagen in the Champions League on Wednesday.

One key factor in Sunday's matchup is Liverpool's impressive home form. They have not lost in their last 25 league matches at Anfield, recording 20 wins and five draws during that period.

If there's one side that can put an end to that streak, though, it is Manchester City. The defending champions are second in the league in points scored on the road this season with 28, per Soccerstats.

Recent Head-to-Head Matchups

Manchester City are unbeaten in their last three meetings with Liverpool in all competitions, recording two wins and a draw during that period.

Pep Guardiola's men drew with the Reds the last time they faced each other in the league, with the game ending 1-1.

Liverpool will take comfort in the fact, however, that they defeated City the last time they faced each other in the league at Anfield.

The Reds recorded a 1-0 victory on October 16, 2022, with Mohamed Salah scoring the game's lone goal in the 76th minute.

Team News

The good news for the Reds is that Mohamed Salah is back in training and will be fit for Sunday's crunch clash against Manchester City.

Manager Jurgen Klopp expressed his delight in having his star man back, saying in a press conference that it is "so good that he's back."

Salah is expected to be available for Liverpool's Europa League match against Slavia Praha on Thursday night as well.

He last played in Liverpool's 4-1 win over Brentford on February 17. He missed four games after that, including the Carabao Cup final, due to a recurrence of a hamstring issue.

Manchester City star Matheus Nunes fractured his finger in their Champions League game against FC Copenhagen on Wednesday, forcing him to be substituted, per the Mirror.

He is now in a race against time to be fit for this weekend's showdown with Liverpool.

Writer's Prediction

Liverpool edge past Manchester City to extend their Premier League lead.

Tightest Premier League title races

Sports Brief recently reported on the tightest title races in Premier League history.

The 2011-12 title race featuring Manchester City and Manchester United topped the list.

Sergio Aguero scored a last-gasp winner against QPR on the final day to lead City to the title.
