  • Kevin De Bruyne left Chelsea during Jose Mourinho's second stint
  • The Portuguese manager has been blamed for the Belgian's exit
  • De Bruyne has clarified the situation surrounding his departure

Kevin De Bruyne has opened up on the situation surrounding his exit from Chelsea, explaining the role played by Jose Mourinho to try and keep him at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho has been labelled by fans as the manager who sold KDB and Mohamed Salah, both of whom are flourishing at Manchester City and Liverpool, while the Blues regret their exits.

Per ESPN, on the Egyptian, the Portuguese boss defended himself by constantly saying at every opportunity that fans only look at one side of the coin and not the other, as he was the manager who signed Salah.

He also said in previous interviews that he wanted to keep hold of De Bruyne, but things did not work out, and the midfielder has now backed the manager's claim.

De Bruyne defends Mourinho over Chelsea exit

Speaking to Rio Ferdinand for TNT Sports, the Belgian playmaker detailed the situation surrounding his entry and exit at the London club.

"I signed for Chelsea knowing that I would be loaned out the first year and if I do really well, then we would see what happens," he said.
"I had a really good year at Bremen, then in the summer there was a little bit of tussle. I could have gone to Dortmund with Klopp or stayed at Chelsea - Jose wanted me to stay [but] it just didn't work out. I was maybe a little bit impatient at that time also but i just wanted to play football."

KDB admitted it was a great team with top stars, and as a young player, he understood he could have gone on multiple loans, but he didn't want that, and he pushed to be sold instead

He had a successful time at Wolfsburg before he was snapped up by Manchester City, where he has gone on to cement his status as one of the greatest midfielders of his generation.

De Bruyne explains relationship with Mourinho

Sports Brief previously reported on KDB explaining his relationship with Mourinho before he decided to move away from Stamford Bridge and joined Wolfsburg.

The 32-year-old admitted that, as opposed to what was said in the media, he spoke to the manager twice, and he fell out of favour with him without any reason.
