An interesting tweet about Harry Kane surfaced on social media after the former Tottenham Hotspur man’s masterclass for Bayern Munich on Tuesday, March 5.

The English captain's brace helped the Bavarians overturn a 1-0 deficit to advance to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League at the expense of Lazio.

To say Kane has been crucial for Thomas Tuchel this season would be an understatement, as the Three Lions striker has been in impeccable goal-scoring form.

In 33 games for the Bavarians, the 30-year-old has had 41 goal contributions, including 33 goals. This is better than Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe, who has also been in typical scintillating form this season with 34 goals in 34 games.

Is Kane better than Lewandowski?

Kane’s superb form for Bayern has left fans drawing comparisons to the club’s modern legend, Robert Lewandowski, who left the German giants in 2022 for Barcelona.

A user on X, identified as @MusialaEra, went viral for boldly claiming the Englishman was a superior marksman.

"Harry Kane is genuinely much better than Robert Lewandowski ever was. The levels are genuinely staggering. Spurs fans were right," he tweeted in a post that has since ignited debate online.

Sports Brief looks at the two players' careers in numbers, including their performances in the Champions League, to put into perspective who was the better player.

Kane at Spurs vs Lewandowski at Bayern

Kane spent the majority of his career at Tottenham, while Lewandowski’s prime years were spent with Bayern Munich.

At Spurs, he managed 213 Premier League goals in 320 appearances. In contrast, the Polish veteran managed 312 goals in 384 appearances in the Bundesliga for Bayern from 2014 to 2022.

From the stats, Lewandowski has a better minutes-per-goal ratio of 100, compared to Kane's 127.

Despite Lewandowski’s superior numbers, it is easy to argue that Kane is the better striker for several reasons.

The Ex-Spurs star played a large chunk of his career with an unpredictable Tottenham side whose squad never managed to win the Premier League over the years.

In comparison, Lewandowski has always been part of a title-winning Bayern side and has always been surrounded by quality around him to the very end of his stint at Allianz Arena.

Kane vs Lewandowski in the Champions League

Since Lewandowski has always been part of a title-winning Bayern side, his Champions League appearances have always been consistent.

The Poland international has 93 goals in 117 appearances in Europe’s elite competition. Only Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have more goals than the 35-year-old, according to UEFA.

This makes it hard to compare his numbers to Kane, who has only made 40 appearances in the Champions League, per Transfermarkt.

Despite his limited appearance, Kane’s 27 goals in the competiton gives him a minutes-per-goal ratio of 130, compared to Lewandowski’s 107.

Another factor to consider while comparing the two players is their age difference, as Lewandowski has had a considerable head start since he is five years older than the former Tottenham man.

Harry Kane sets new record

Sports Brief also reported on Harry Kane setting a unique milestone after his brace for Bayern Munich.

He is now the only British player to score 50+ goals in UEFA competitions, as he continues to impress.
