  • Cristiano Ronaldo's elaborate attempt at dribbling goes viral
  • The 39-year-old used a Ronaldinho-like skill which backfired
  • Unfortunately, Ronaldo's Al-Nassr suffered a 1-0 loss to Al Ain

Cristiano Ronaldo's much-anticipated return to competitive action in Al-Nassr's AFC Champions League first-leg quarterfinal clash against Al Ain turned out to be a disappointment.

After serving a one-game ban for a controversial gesture in a previous Saudi League match against Al Shabab, the 39-year-old forward hoped to make a positive impact.

Ronaldo's return ends in disappointing loss

However, his efforts fell short as the Knights of Najd suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at the Tahnoun Bin Mohamed Stadium against the Emirati champions, per Sporting News.

Despite some promising moments for Al-Nassr, including Ronaldo's clear chance on goal and a long-range attempt that narrowly missed the target, it was Al Ain's Soufiane Rahimi who made the difference with a sublime first-half goal, according to GOAL.

While the 14-time UAE champions had two goals disallowed for offside, Al-Nassr also rued missed opportunities.

One notable incident from the match involved the 39-year-old's attempt to outwit his opponents with fancy footwork, including his trademark stepovers.

However, his efforts backfired as he lost possession and was physically challenged by Al Ain defenders, resulting in a viral moment that caught the attention of fans.

Despite the disappointment, CR7 and Al-Nassr will look to bounce back in the reverse fixture scheduled for March 11.

Ronaldo taunted with Messi chants again

During the same game on Monday, March 4, Cristiano Ronaldo faced another test of patience as he endured relentless chants of Lionel Messi's name from the home crowd during an AFC Champions League match, Sports Brief reported.

Videos circulating online captured the loud chants of Ronaldo's perennial rival's name echoing throughout the stadium, persisting from pre-match warm-ups to halftime.

Despite the provocation, the former Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus ace appeared unfazed and hurriedly made his way down the tunnel at halftime, seemingly brushing off the taunts.
