- The Nigerian forward has scored only twice since his return from injury
- Wayne Rooney has offered goalscoring advice to Nottingham Forest star
Taiwo Awoniyi's struggle to find the back of the net persisted as Nottingham Forest suffered another defeat against Liverpool.
Despite being the team's main goal-scoring threat since their return to the Premier League under manager Steve Cooper, Awoniyi has been unable to replicate his form from the 2022/23 season, where he scored 10 goals in 27 appearances.
This season, the 26-year-old has only managed to score six times, hampered by injuries and inconsistent performances. Consequently, he has found himself relegated to the substitute bench, with Anthony Elanga taking his place in the starting lineup.
Amid this string of poor performances and reduced playing time, former Manchester United captain, Wayne Rooney, has offered crucial advice to the Nigerian.

Rooney offers Awoniyi advice
Following Nottingham Forest's unfortunate defeat to Liverpool, the 38-year-old, as noted by Nottingham Post, expressed his belief in the talent of Nigerian forward, Awoniyi. However, he also offered some advice to help Awoniyi fulfil his potential as the lethal striker many had anticipated.
"As a forward, if you position yourself in the middle of the goal, you will get chances," Rooney said.
"He needs to be a bit more precise and perhaps consider making that extra pass, but with that, he'll find better chances."
"He must be prepared to seize those opportunities when they arise. If he aims to play for a top-tier club, he'll need to capitalize on those moments."
Rooney's guidance comes at a crucial juncture for Nottingham Forest, who are in dire need of their centre forward to rediscover his scoring touch to steer clear of relegation troubles.
