  • Manchester City star Rodri set a new Premier League record on Sunday, March 3
  • The Portuguese midfielder was part of the City squad that beat Man United 3-1
  • Phil Foden scored a brace during the derby meeting, with Haaland also on target

Rodri has broken a 16-year Premier League record following Manchester City's 3-1 win over rivals United.

City staged a dramatic comeback on Sunday, March 3, to see off the Red Devils at the Etihad Stadium.

Marcus Rashford scored the opening goal with a stunner before Phil Foden scored a brace in the second half to get City back into the tie.

Erling Haaland went on to score City's third goal at stoppage time as the hosts secured a comfortable win over Erik ten Hag's men.

The result saw the Citizens narrow Liverpool's lead at the top of the table to just a point, with the Red Devils left languishing in sixth with 44 points.

Rodri sets Premier League record

Apparently, City's win was just more than a victory for Rodri, with SPORTbible reporting that the result was enough to help him set a new Premier League record.

The result means that Rodri has not lost a club game since February 2023, when City lost 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur.

Since that defeat, Rodri has represented City in 59 games without tasting a defeat, the longest by any Premier League player.

The record was previously held by Chelsea legend Ricardo Carvalho, who went 58 games without defeat.

The streak ran between November 2006 and February 2008.

Meanwhile, Rodri joined City in the summer of 2019, with the club splashing a club record of €70million, per Goal.
