  • Stanley Nwabali has attracted interest from top clubs in Saudi Arabia and England
  • The Chippa United shot-stopper impressed at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations for Nigeria
  • Fabrizio Romano reported that two top-flight clubs are interested in the Super Eagles man

Football transfer guru Fabrizio Romano dropped a bombshell on Sunday, March 3, reporting that not one but two big clubs have set their sights on Nigeria's standout goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali.

Nwabali is widely expected to seek greener pastures this summer following his impressive performance with the Super Eagles during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Chippa United shot-stopper kept four clean sheets en route to the Super Eagles silver medal in Abidjan.

Romano cited Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ettifaq, coached by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard and England's Queens Park Rangers as the clubs inquiring about Nwabali's services.

"Nigeria's goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is catching the attention of clubs like Al Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia and Queens Park Rangers in the UK. Chippa United will weigh his options in the coming months," said Fabrizio, as seen on his X handle.

Despite rumours linking him to Kaizer Chiefs, recent reports suggest that the South African giants have shelved plans to sign the keeper.

Instead, they've opted to extend contracts for their current goalkeeping duo, Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Peterson.

Amakhosi have been rumoured to be one of the top clubs interested in signing Nwabali as they prepare to do away with club legend and former South Africa first-choice goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune.

As reported by Leadership Nigeria, Nwabali expressed his desire to continue donning Chippa colours for another year or two.

Having joined Chippa in 2022 from Nigeria Premier Football League side Katsina United, Nwabali's stock has risen significantly, thanks to his stellar performances for his club and the national team.

Sports Brief reported that Nwabali promised to repay Siviwe Mpengesi for his support throughout the 2023 AFCON.

Mpengesi irked many South Africans after he declared his support for Nigeria before the semi-final clash against Bafana Bafana.

Super Eagles went ahead to win via penalties, with Nwabali saving two spot-kicks.
