The Nigeria Football Federation will be tasked with choosing a successor to Portuguese manager, Jose Peseiro, after confirming his exit as Super Eagles coach on Friday, March 1.
The 63-year-old tactician spent 22 years in charge of the Nigeria national team after taking over in June 2022 following the Super Eagles' failure to qualify for the FIFA World Cup.
According to the Daily Post, Peseiro led Nigeria to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations where they lost 2-1 to hosts Ivory Coast which marked the end of his contract with the team.
The Portuguese was reportedly in talks with the NFF over a possible contract renewal after the expiration of his contract in February, but both parties have now decided to part ways.

Meanwhile, the NFF has appointed Augustine Eguavoen has the interim Super Eagles coach following the exit of Peseiro who confirmed his departure from the national team on Friday, Soccernet reports.
Eguavoen, who acts as the Super Eagles Technical Director, will take charge of the team for Nigeria’s upcoming international friendly games in March.
The former Super Eagles right wing-back was in charge of the Nigerian team at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon following the exit of the former coach, Gernot Rohr.
