FootballCavin Johnson: Kaizer Chiefs Interim Coach Beginning to Feel the Heat
- The pressure is starting to pile up for Cavin Johnson at Kaizer Chiefs
- Amakhosi just recently lost to a lower-tire side in the Nedbank Cup
- Johnson apologised to fans for the embarrassing tournament exit
As caretaker coach at Kaizer Chiefs, Cavin Johnson has admitted that his job is no walk in the park.
Appointed in October, he faced a tough week following the team's exit from the Nedbank Cup against Milford FC, a lower-division side.
Currently sixth in the DStv Premiership, Chiefs have a chance to bounce back in their upcoming match against Moroka Swallows at FNB Stadium this Saturday, March 2.
However, with Mamelodi Sundowns dominating the league, the pressure is mounting for the manager, especially after the Nedbank Cup setback.

Asked about the challenges of being an interim coach, Johnson stressed that there is no respite for him, especially at a club like Amakhosi.
"You don't do this job as an interim coach. Not at Kaizer Chiefs... and if you're going to work with a mentality [of an interim coach], then you don't do it all. It's like piloting an aeroplane, and you want to fly it halfway. No, it's not going to work," he explained, as reported by Times Live.
Reflecting on the team's recent defeat, he admitted it was still sinking in, particularly the realisation of not securing a trophy for the club. However, his focus remains on the upcoming fixture against Swallows.
The team's struggles in front of goal, notably Ashley du Preez's missed opportunities, haven't gone unnoticed. Johnson stressed the importance of addressing mistakes in training sessions and working on players' mentality to bounce back stronger.

FootballAcknowledging the disappointment felt by the fans, the interim Chiefs boss also publicly apologised during a press conference after the match.
Milford's goalkeeper, Siphamandla Hleza, emerged as the hero with vital saves and the decisive penalty during the shootout, as reported by News24.
The loss to the lower-tier side extended Kaizer Chiefs' trophy drought and sparked criticism from supporters across social media platforms.
Chiefs legend slams Cavin Johnson
Sports Brief also reported that ex-Chiefs forward, Mike Rapatsa, slammed 'too relaxed' Johnson for his demeanour despite the club's poor form.
In the PSL, the club are 17 points behind Sundowns and will end the season trophyless, but still have a chance to qualify for CAF tournaments.
