  • Premier League clubs reportedly are scrambling for the signature of a Nigerian talent
  • Nigeria's AFCON 2023 campaign showcased most of their players to clubs in Europe
  • The three-time African champions finished second behind host nation, Ivory Coast

English Premier League clubs are said to be battling for the signature of a Super Eagles star who represented Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The West African nation finished second in the competition after losing to the host nation in the final, but had a good run from the group stage to the knockout phase.

The performance of the Nigerian team at the tournament has showcased most of the players in the squad to clubs in Europe, seemingly piquing transfer interest.

According to a report by HITC, as per Daily Post, three Premier League clubs: Crystal Palace, Everton, and Nottingham Forest, are scrambling for the signature of Nigerian international, Raphael Onyedika, ahead of the summer transfer window.

Brentford and championship side, Leicester City, are also said to be interested in signing the Super Eagles midfielder.

The 22-year-old featured in Nigeria's third group game against Guinea-Bissau at AFCON 2023, playing 27 minutes and was on the bench in the final against Ivory Coast.

The central midfielder is currently plying his football trade with Club Brugge. He joined the Belgian side from Danish club, FC Midtjylland, in 2022.

Onyedika could be the next big-money departure from the Belgian Pro League giants, with the likes of Lois Openda, Arnaut Danjuma, and Sofyan Amrabat exiting.

The Nigerian midfielder was an unused substitute as Brugge suffered a semi-final exit from the Belgian Cup against Royal Union SG on Wednesday.

Why Barcelona should sign Onyedika

Sports Brief also previously highlighted the reasons why Onyedika will perfectly fit at Barcelona after being linked with the Catalan giants.

La Blaugrana are grappling with a financial crisis, making a high-profile signing out of reach and needing them to go for a more affordable option.

The 22-year-old midfielder has been in good form for Club Brugge this season and has represented the Belgian side 33 times in the campaign.
