The sudden passing of Ivorian footballer Archange Defrignan Mondou has rocked the football world.

Mondou, a promising 19-year-old who plied his trade in Norway, was found unresponsive in his Hamar apartment, 60 miles North of Oslo.

Nicknamed Achilles, the Ivorian midfielder is reported to have passed away on Tuesday, February 27.

His club, Eliteserien outfit HamKam, has since released a statement confirming his demise.

"It is with great sadness that HamKam Football has received the news that Achilles has passed away at the age of 19.

"He was found in his apartment. Our warmest thoughts are with his family and relatives.

According to Sunsport, local police have ruled out foul play but are still awaiting the results of the autopsy for a more comprehensive report, as the cause of death remains unknown.

Mondou took the leap of faith in 2023, travelling from his native Ivory Coast to Norway to further his football career.

The teenager was determined to succeed against the odds, as he previously faced health challenges, including a heart issue that hindered him from going to the very top in football.

In September last year, Moudnou took a break from football following a concerning incident in training.

According to Gistreel, he spent a considerable amount of time in hospital for further medical tests.
