Barcelona have reportedly 'revoked' Dani Alves' legend status after the right-back was slapped with a prison sentence.

Alves was handed a four-and-a-half-year sentence after he was found guilty of 'forcing himself into' a woman.

The Brazilian star is said to have been involved in the act on New Year's Eve in 2022.

While the 40-year-old denied any wrongdoing during his trial, a Spanish court found him guilty of the charges.

According to Sky Sports, Alves was also ordered to pay his victim €150,000 in compensation and court costs.

"The sentence takes into consideration that it has been proven the victim did not consent and that there is evidence in addition to their testimony that proves the offence," the court ruled.

Barcelona 'revoke' Alves' legend status

The former Brazil international has now been dealt with another blow after Barcelona reportedly resolved to cut ties with him after the guilty verdict.

Get Football, citing Diario Sport reports that the Catalan giants have decided to revoke the right-back's legend status.

"Barça has removed Dani Alves from being a legendary footballer of the club, a condition held by up to 102 footballers who have defended the Blaugrana jacket since its foundation on November 29, 1899.’

Alves had two stints with Barcelona, with the first coming between 2008 and 2016.

In total, the legendary defender made over 400 appearances for the club, winning six La Liga titles, four Copa del Rey trophies, and three Champions League crowns.

He also won three UEFA Super Cups and two FIFA Club World Cups.

5 footballers who have been jailed before

Earlier, Sports Brief analysed five famous footballers who have been jailed before in the wake of Alves' sentence.

The footballers include former Brazil goalkeeper Bruno Fernandes de Souza and Barcelona icon Ronaldinho.

Ronaldinho spent five months in a Paraguayan prison in 2020 for allegedly using fake passports with his brother to enter the country.
