  • Khuliso Mudau had the chance to score South Africa's winner against Nigeria but his effort went wide
  • The Mamelodi Sundowns star played a pivotal role in Bafana Bafana's campaign at the 2023 AFCON
  • The 28-year-old has finally opened up on the infamous miss, saying it happens in the game of football

Bafana Bafana defender, Khuliso Mudau, has regretted the last-minute miss against Nigeria at the recently concluded 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast.

South Africa came from a goal down to draw level with the Super Eagles in their semi-final clash in Bouake.

The Mamelodi Sundowns right-back had a last-gasp chance to win it for his side in injury time, but his effort went over the bar.

The match proceeded to extra time, but unfortunately, Bafana Bafana lost 4-2 on penalties to miss out on the final.

Had Mudau tucked home the chance, South Africa would have won the tie, but the ex-Black Leopards star says such happens in football.

He told iDiski Times that sometimes a player scored and sometimes they missed.

"Some you win... it happens, bro. Obviously going to the game, I want to win every game, it’s just one of those.
"I think everyone knows that we made the country proud. Unfortunately, we didn’t make the final but we wanted to reach the final so that people can believe in us again.
"Because you can tell when Bafana Bafana was playing, you can tell… Ahhh, but now I believe that people will come back and support us in full," Mudau added.

Hugo Broos wants Lyle Foster's return

Sports Brief earlier reported that Bafana Bafana head coach, Hugo Broos, is eager to end the uncertainty surrounding Lyle Foster's availability for the upcoming international friendlies.

The Burnley striker withdrew from his country's AFCON 2023 squad ahead of the continental tournament, despite subsequently playing full games for his club in the Premier League.

Broos has stated he aimed to engage Foster face-to-face to determine his commitment to representing South Africa in the set of friendly games against Andorra and Algeria next month.
