  • A Super Eagles assistant coach has offered transfer advice to the 27-year-old

The immediate future of Stanley Nwabali has become a focal point of discussion following his standout performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

The 27-year-old, who was pivotal in Nigeria’s run all the way to the final at the showpiece, has continued to attract transfer interest from a flurry of elite clubs on the African continent and beyond.

Nwabali’s current club, Chippa United, have reportedly set an asking price of ₤2 million for any club looking to acquire the Nigerian goalkeeper, who went over 490 minutes without conceding during the tournament.

Nonetheless, amidst the growing speculation surrounding the future of the Chippa United star, assistant coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Finidi George, has offered the former Enyimba goalkeeper some transfer advice.

Finidi’s advice to Nwabali

During an interview with reporters from the Nigerian football league, as reported by OwnGoalNigeria, the 52-year-old emphasised the need for the goalkeeper to depart from Chippa United in favour of a higher-profile club.

"I believe he should seek opportunities elsewhere. The career of a footballer is short, typically 10 to 12 years without injuries. You must make the most of it, as life after football is long, and regret is common among retired players who didn't plan ahead."
"The best decision now will lead to a better future. If there's an offer from Europe or Asia with better pay, I think he has to go.”

The words of the former Real Betis winger resonate with many across the Nigerian football circle who have often stressed the importance of the stand-out shot-stopper riding on the waves of his AFCON heroics to secure a transfer to an elite club.

Finidi highlights Nigeria’s positives from AFCON

Sports Brief in another report stated that the assistant coach of the Super Eagles, Finidi, highlighted two positives Nigeria gained at the AFCON.

The 53-year-old stated that the team now has a formation with which they look to build upon, as well as hinted that the goalkeeping crisis is well behind them.
