Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has branded himself 'Nigerian Zidane' in a recent chat with ex-teammate, Eden Hazard.
Mikel Obi had a good spell with the Nigerian national team, winning the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013 and finishing third in 2006, 2010, and 2019.
The former Stoke City midfielder retired from international duty after the 2019 edition of AFCON in Egypt and called off his time from professional football two years later.

During an episode of his podcast, Obi One, Mikel claimed he is the 'Nigerian Zidane' after Hazard playfully questioned the former Super Eagles midfielder about his penalty-taking prowess.

"In Nigeria, I used to shoot the penalties. In the Nigeria national team, I was the Zidane," the former Nigerian national team captain said.
Mikel Obi's comparison with Zidane is plausible as the former Chelsea star also possesses some of the footballing traits of the France and Real Madrid legendary midfielder.
The Blues legend anchored the Super Eagles midfield department for 14 years and was an essential figure in the team during those periods.
