The last three teams to win the MLS have had Ghanaian players in their squad, with Jonathan Mensah, Latif Blessing and Kwadwo Opoku to name a few.

This season, there are 14 Ghanaian players expected to feature in the American Soccer League including former winners Mensah and Yeboah.

Here are the Ghanaian players in the MLS

Yaw Yeboah - Columbus Crew

Yeboah moved to America in 2021 and has been a key figure at Columbus Crew, scoring the winner in the final last year against LAFC. He has already made his first appearance in the new campaign for the Ohio-based franchise.

Jonathan Mensah - New England Revolution

A former champion and a veteran of the MLS, Mensah will be playing in his seventh year since moving to the United States. The former FIFA U20 World Cup winner has already represented Columbus Crew and San Jose Earthquakes in the league and has over 100 regular season appearances.

Joseph Paintsil - LA Galaxy

A member of Ghana's senior national team. Painstil moved to the MLS after ending his stay in Belgium with KRC Genk. He is expected to make his debut tonight against Lionel Messi's Inter Miami. Despite moving to the MLS at an earlier age, he is expected to be a hit in the USA, as reported by Flash Score.

Ema Boateng - New England Revolution

Another veteran of the MLS, Boateng has played for LA Galaxy, DC United and Columbus Crew. He won the MLS with Crew in 2020 and currently plays for the New England Revolution, alongside Jonathan Mensah.

Latif Blessing - Toronto FC

Blessing has a lot of experience playing in the MLS. He moved to the United States in 2017 to join Sporting City Kansas after winning the Golden Boot in the Ghana Premier League. The 27-year-old won the MLS with LAFC before moving to New England Revolution and later Toronto FC.

Kwadwo Opoku - CF Montreal

Opoku was teammates with Blessing at LAFC and the duo were part of the team that won the MLS in 2022. He moved to CF Montreal last season, making 12 appearances and scoring four goals.

Lalas Abubakar - Colorado Rapids

The former Ghana youth international left for the United States in 2015, where he joined Charlotte Eagles. He was later drafted into Columbus Crew before spending time on loan at Pittsburg Riverhounds. He joined Rapids in 2020.

Patrick Agyemang - Charlotte FC

One of the revelations of last season in the MLS, Agyemang featured for both the youth team, Crown Legacy, and the senior side Charlotte FC. The 23-year-old is expected to make a full move to the senior team this season.

Harrison Afful

The former Kotoko defender is yet to announce his next move after Charlotte FC declined his extension option at the end of last season. Afful was part of the Columbus Crew team that won the 2020 MLS.

Shakur Mohammed - Orlando City

A graduate of the Right to Dream Academy, Mohammed joined Orlando City in 2023 and will be expected to play a role in the new campaign.

Derrick Jones - Columbus Crew

Jones joined the Columbus Crew in 2024 after leaving Charlotte FC. The Ghanaian-born US youth international is expected to play a role in the new season due to his experience in the MLS. Jones previously played for Philadelphia Union, Nashville and Houston Dynamo.

Yaw Yeboah wins MLS with Columbus Crew

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Yaw Yeboah's strike proved decisive as Columbus Crew defeated Los Angeles FC to win their third Major League Soccer title in an exciting final at the Lower.com Field.

The Ghana international slotted home just four minutes after Cucho Hernandez had given the Gold and Blacks the lead.

Gabonese forward Denis Bouanga pulled one back for LAFC but it was too late as the 2020 champions reclaimed the title.
