  • Luca Toni has dissected Victor Osimhen's goal against Barcelona, praising the Nigerian international
  • Since returning from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the Super Eagles striker is back among the goals
  • Barcelona went ahead courtesy of a Robert Lewandowski strike, but the Napoli ace hit back with a goal

Former Juventus striker, Luca Toni, has given his verdict on Victor Osimhen's sensational strike against FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.

The Nigerian international helped his side to come from behind to share the spoils in the first leg game of their Round of 16 fixture.

Barca's Robert Lewandowski had put the visitors ahead on the hour mark when he slotted the ball into the Napoli net from inside the area.

Having tormented the opposition defence all night, Osimhen finally found the back of the net in the 75th minute.

The Nigerian international expertly controlled Frank Anguissa's pass, beating the opposition defender before slotting the ball into the net.

Toni has applauded the forward for such a fine finish, with the 46-year-old remarking, per Complete Sports:

"Osimhen withstood the defender’s impact, protected the ball, turned well, and then, in front of the goal, the goalkeeper was wrong-footed. A goal from a true striker.
He added: "Napoli played a great match; they had a lot to lose, but instead, they emerged from Barcelona’s dominance and demonstrated they can scare Barcelona."

The two sides go into the second-leg game level, ahead of their meeting at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in Barcelona.

Chelsea send scouts to monitor Osimhen

Sports Brief earlier reported that Chelsea are reportedly still scouting Osimhen, with the club appearing to be doing everything possible to sign the Super Eagles forward next summer.

The Blues are in the race for the Nigerian striker's signature, along with Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain, with the 25-year-old in high demand due to his goal-scoring exploits for Napoli.

Reports have that the Blues sent scouts to watch the forward in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first-leg game between the Italian champs and the Catalan giants this week.
