  • Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the Europa League's all-time top scorer
  • The former Barcelona star passed Radamel Falcao's record on Thursday
  • The Gabon international scored for Olympique Marseille in the competition

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang became the all-time top scorer in the Europa League after the former Arsenal striker scored for Olympique Marseille in the last 16 against Shakhtar Donetsk.

The French giants beat the Ukrainian titans 3-1 to win the tie 5-3 on aggregate, with Aubameyang scoring in the 23rd minute.

The Gabonese equalled Radamel Falcao's record (30 goals) in the first leg, which ended 3-3. On Thursday, he equalised for Marseille after Georgiy Sudakov’s early opener for the visitors.

The veteran striker also set up Marseille's second goal. Senegal international, Ismaila Sarr, finished from close range following Auba's deft touch. Geoffrey Kondogbia sealed the win late in the game, per Eurosport.

The 34-year-old has now scored 31 goals in the Europa League. His goals have come for Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, Barcelona, and Marseille.

The closest active player on the list is AS Roma's Romelu Lukaku, who has scored 26.

Aubameyang's career stats

Aubameyang was the best centre-forward in Europe at one point in his career. He was the best striker in Germany with Dortmund for several seasons and won the 2016/17 Bundesliga Golden Boot.

After leaving Dortmund, he joined Arsenal, where he won another Golden Boot. Following his dispute with Gunners manager, Mikel Arteta, he briefly joined Barcelona, where he won the 2022/23 La Liga.

Aubameyang has scored 335 goals in 673 appearances in his club career. He also scored 30 goals for his country, Gabon, per Transfermarkt.

Aubameyang silences critics with hat-trick

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Arsenal striker, Aubameyang, proved himself to the doubters by scoring an incredible hat-trick, including an overhead kick.

Following an unsuccessful season at Chelsea, he left the Premier League to join Marseille, leading some detractors to say the Gabon international's career was over.

However, Aubameyang has been a key cog in the Ligue 1 club's machine in the Europa League, with the French club seemingly on a new mission to claim a trophy.
