Under the guidance of Portuguese manager, Jose Peseiro, the Nigerian national team achieved their best finish at the tournament since their triumph in 2013.
Looking to maintain their momentum and fulfil their goal of becoming the top football team in Africa, coach Peseiro has hinted at adding new players to the Super Eagles squad ahead of the qualifying fixtures for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and AFCON 2025.
A report from OwnGoalNigeria indicates that the 63-year-old tactician has initiated discussions with Napoli midfielder, Michael Folorusho, regarding the possibility of him representing the Super Eagles.

Folorunsho to play for Nigeria?
The report stated the former Sporting CP manager had engaged in discussions with the midfielder following his outstanding performance, which included scoring a goal-of-the-season contender against Italian Serie A giants, Juventus.
The 25-year-old, currently on loan at Hellas Verona, has consistently proven to be an asset for Marco Baroni’s side thanks to his versatility, which enables him to excel in various positions as the Vento-based team continues their quest to avoid relegation.
It was also stated that talks between Folorunsho and Peseiro ended on a positive note, with the midfielder reportedly contemplating the opportunity to represent Nigeria.
These discussions are expected to progress further once the Super Eagles coach's contract extension is finalised.
