  • The first international football window of 2024 is on the horizon
  • Nigeria’s Super Eagles are poised to square off against Argentina
  • A report of new additions to the Super Eagles squad has emerged

The Super Eagles of Nigeria resume their quest to secure their highly coveted spot of being the best football team on the African continent with an international friendly with the Albiceleste, of Argentina.

Under the guidance of manager, Jose Peseiro, the Super Eagles made headlines with their impressive performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, where they secured a silver medal despite facing heavy criticism.

However, as the dust settles on the 2023 AFCON and attention turns towards securing qualification for the 2025 edition of the tournament as well as the 2026 FIFA World Cup, reports have surfaced indicating coach Peseiro's intention to introduce fresh talent into the Super Eagles' roster.

Super Eagles squad welcome new addition

According to a report from OwnGoalNigeria, the 63-year-old coach aims to strengthen the Nigerian national team by including Bayer Leverkusen forward, Nathan Tella, a new left-back to replace Zaidu Sanusi, who picked up an ACL injury, a new goalkeeper due to concerns about Omonia Nicosia star, Francis Uzoho, and two additional midfielders.

These additions are reportedly planned for the upcoming March international window, which is the only opportunity for test fixtures.

The report also indicates that the Portuguese coach is likely to remain in charge of the Nigerian team, despite a ₤208,000 monthly contract offered to him by the Algerian Football Federation, as they search for a successor to Djamel Belhmadi.

Additionally, the Super Eagles are set to play against the Argentine national team in the United States, instead of the originally planned venue of Hong Kong.

Super Eagles icon offers Osimhen advice

Sports Brief in another report stated that Super Eagles of Nigeria icon, Peter Ijeh, has advised Victor Osimhen, amid the growing transfer interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

The Napoli star is tipped to replace Kylian Mbappe after reports of his imminent departure from the Ligue 1 club emerged.

Ijeh stressed the importance of joining a ball-playing team amid the numerous interests the forward continues to attract.
