- Inter Miami wrapped up their pre-season with a draw against Newell's Old Boys
- Lionel Messi played against his former club since leaving for Barcelona in 2000
- The Newell's players were excited to play against their legend with their gestures
Lionel Messi is one of the most influential footballers in the world, and it is a dream come true for most players who have been his teammates or play against him.
Inter Miami concluded their pre-season ahead of the 2024 Major League Soccer season with a draw against Messi’s former club, Newell's Old Boys, at the DRV PNK Stadium.
The Argentina captain featured for 60 minutes before he was substituted, with the scores still levelled at 0-0. Miami took the lead four minutes later through Shanyder Borgelin.
The evening looked like it would end in a win for the Herons, but Franco Diaz pulled one back for the Argentinian club to end it apiece like most of Miami's games during pre-season.

Newell's players queue for photo with Messi
There were a lot of meet and greets after the final whistle, and most especially, the World Cup winner received more love than he would have anticipated before the game.
As seen in a video shared on social media by Roy Nemer, Newell's players queued to get a photo from their club legend, who was happy to grant their wishes.
Via his Instagram page, he shared seven of his best images from the action with the caption: “A very special game to end preseason.”
Messi and his teammates must now look ahead to the MLS season with the target of at least making a playoff spot and putting behind them the abysmal pre-season.
They have been boosted by the arrival of former Barcelona star Luis Suarez and defensive midfielder Fernando Redondo.
