The Nigeria Football Federation have opened contract talks with current Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro with just days left to the expiration of his present deal.
The 63-year-old Portuguese tactician, who took charge in June 2022 after the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the FIFA World Cup, guided Nigeria to win the silver medal at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
According to Own Goal Nigeria, Peseiro has tabled three conditions to the NFF if he is to continue as coach of the national team when his present deal expires at the end of February.

FootballIt is gathered that the Portuguese wants a straight two-year deal, which is tied to qualifying Nigeria for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as well as further extending the contract based on the performance at the tournament should they qualify.

Peseiro is also demanding that the salary of his first team assistant coach and goalkeeper trainer be paid by the football federation, which he currently pays from his $60,000 monthly salary.
Meanwhile, Peseiro has been linked with the Algeria national team coaching job after his contract with the Super Eagles is set to come to an end following the conclusion of the Africa Cup of Nations, Daily Post reports.
The Portuguese coach is under serious consideration from the Algerian Football Federation to lead the Desert Foxes following their shambolic campaign in Ivory Coast after they exited the AFCON in the group phase.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Nigerian goalkeeper Idah Peterside has called for the Nigerian Football Federation to sack Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro despite his acclaimed success at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Peterside has queried Peseiro’s defensive approach to the competition and feels he is not the right manager for the national team.
The NFF have already begun contract negotiations with Peseiro as it is widely expected he will continue in his position as Super Eagles coach for at least another two years.
