But some stars, despite their fortune and success in the game, decided to settle with partners who were considerably older than them.

Argentina and Galatasaray star Mauro Icardi typically headlines this list, as his relationship with TV personality and model, Wanda Nara, is one of the most talked about in the sporting sphere.

It is not always for good reasons, however, as the couple is known to break up only to make up months later.

Wanda is six years older than 30-year-old Icardi, and the pair met for the first time when the striker was a young promising footballer. At the time, Wanda was married to Maxi Lopez, who has been rumoured to have been one of Icardi’s first mentors.

2. Cesc Fabregas and Daniela Semaan

Former Arsenal and Barcelona man Cesc Fabregas is married to stunning Lebanese-born mother of five Daniela Semaan, who is popularly known on the internet as ‘Queen of the WAGS’.

Daniela, who is on the brink of clocking her 50s but looks nothing like her age, is 12 years older than the retired midfielder.

The pair dated for seven years before Fabregas popped the question in 2017 when he was 29.

3. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Helena Seger

Ibrahimovic’s love story with the lovely Helena Seger is quite hilarious as the pair met when the lady confronted him about his poor parking in 2002, per Daily Star.

But it turned out to be a slice of serendipity for the two, who have been together for more than two decades and counting. Their marriage has produced two sons who are 17 and 15 respectively.

Zlatan, currently 42, is 11 years younger than his partner.

4. Sergio Ramos and Pilar Rubio

Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos got into a relationship with TV presenter Pilar Rubio in 2012.

Rubio, 45, is eight years older than Ramos, who currently plies his trade at Sevilla. The couple has four children.

5. David de Gea and Edurne Garcia

De Gea made it official with his long-term partner Edurne Garcia in 2023, eight years after they started dating.

The former Manchester United man is smitten by his wife, who is a Spanish singer, actress and TV personality.

Edune is five years older than her hubby, and the couple has one daughter, Yanay, who was born in 2021.

Honorable mention

An honourable mention in this category is Gerard Pique, who enjoyed a marriage with pop singer Shakira for over a decade before the two called it quits in a joint statement on June 4 2022.

Pique, who is 10 years younger than Shakira, met the superstar in 2010 during the World Cup in South Africa, and a romance soon brewed.

The ex-couple has two kids; Sasha and Milan, according to People.com.
