Victor Osimhen is set to return to Napoli this week following the conclusion of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he helped the Super Eagles finish with a silver medal.

The 25-year-old forward was among the team welcomed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu upon their return to Nigeria on Tuesday, where they were awarded national accolades for their efforts.

According to Punch NG, Osimhen is expected to arrive at Napoli on Wednesday, February 14, as his Serie A club starts preparations for their UEFA Champions League clash against Barcelona.

Napoli, bidding to win the Champions League for the first time in their history, have been drawn to face the Catalan giants in the Round of 16 in Europe’s most prestigious club competition.

Osimhen led Napoli to the Scudetto last season and currently has a contract with the reigning Serie A champions until 2025.

Napoli open to Osimhen exit

Meanwhile, Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis has already stated that Victor Osimhen is expected to quit the Serie A champions this summer, only one season after leading them to their first league title in 33 years, Pulse Sports reports.

Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Arsenal are some of the top clubs in Europe credited with an interest in the Super Eagles forward ahead of the transfer window next summer.

Osimhen signed a contract extension with the Italian champions in December that contains a release clause of between €120m and €130m.

Victor Osimhen nicknamed Ray Mysterio

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that following Nigeria's loss in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, netizens have playfully dubbed Super Eagles attacker Victor Osimhen as WWE superstar Ray Mysterio.

The Napoli striker was a member of Nigeria's squad that lost the 2023 AFCON final against hosts Ivory Coast on Sunday night.

The Super Eagles were favourites going into the final, having had a remarkable run in the competition, including defeating Ivory Coast in the group stages.
