The 2023/24 UEFA Champions League returns today for the knockout stages as 16 teams battle in the Round of 16 to crown the next king of European club football.

Sports Brief looks at the top five teams with the highest chances of winning per Opta Analyst’s Supercomputer.

Teams’ chances of winning UCL

1. Manchester City

Pep Guardiola’s side broke the first-time barrier in their second attempt after winning the Champions League for the first time last year, beating Inter Milan in the final. The AI backs the Citizens to retain their title at a 32.1% chance.

2. Real Madrid

14-time champions Real Madrid will also be in action tonight against German opposition RB Leipzig. Los Blancos have a 15.4% chance of winning a record-extending 15th title. Per an official statement, top scorer Jude Bellingham will miss the game after suffering an ankle sprain against Girona.

3. Inter Milan

The simulation backs last season’s runner-up, Inter Milan, to have an 11.6% chance of going beyond their best last year and winning it. Simone Inzaghi’s men are seven points clear at the top of the Serie A table and could win their first double since Jose Mourinho’s team in 2010.

4. Bayern Munich

2020 winners Bayern Munich are facing the difficult task of retaining their Bundesliga title, with Bayer Leverkusen clear at the top of the table with five points. Their task in the Champions League is even more complicated, with a 10.1% chance of winning their seventh title.

5. Arsenal

The Gunners are playing in the competition for the first time since 2016. Still, the supercomputer picked them as the fifth of 16 teams with the highest chances of winning it at 8.4%, higher than Paris Saint-Germain (6.4%), Barcelona (3.4%) and Borussia Dortmund (3%).

Lazio and Copenhagen are the only teams with less than 1% chance of winning, with the Danish club having no chance of winning.

Arsenal backed to win EPL title

Sports Brief reported on Supercomputer predicting Arsenal will win the Premier League title after hammering city neighbours West Ham 6-0 in the London derby.

The North Londoners came close to winning their first since 2004 last year, but with three games left in the season, Man City usurped them to win a third consecutive title.
