  • Chelsea recorded a 3-1 away win at Crystal Palace on Monday
  • The Blues have recorded 13 consecutive wins over the Eagles
  • Chelsea will take on Manchester City in their next home game

Chelsea created history against Crystal Palace by accomplishing a feat they hadn't achieved in 118 years on Monday.

Despite Palace taking the lead 1-0 at Selhurst Park with a remarkable strike from Jefferson Lerma, the Blues staged a comeback in the second half.

Conor Gallagher netted a brace, marking his first goal of the season, before Enzo Fernandez secured the three points in stoppage time with a second assist from Cole Palmer.

The Stamford Bridge outfit secured their second consecutive victory after eliminating Aston Villa from the FA Cup earlier in the week.

Chelsea breaks 118-year record

However, the significance of the victory extends further as it marks a record-breaking achievement for Mauricio Pochettino's side, with 13 consecutive wins against Palace.

This unprecedented feat represents the first instance in Chelsea's history of securing a prolonged streak of victories against a single opponent in league matches, per Squawka.

The Monday evening fixture also marked Roy Hodgson's 200th match in charge of Palace, and could potentially signal the end of his tenure.

The milestone was contrasted by a third defeat in four games for the Eagles, following significant losses against Arsenal and Brighton.

Will Chelsea sack Pochettino?

Per TalkSPORT, Chelsea are unlikely to get rid of the under-fire boss, Pochettino, as his position at Stamford Bridge is reportedly under no immediate threat.

The publication claims the Blues owners want to gauge the tactician's performance at the end of the season instead of upsetting the system midway through.

The development comes just a day after the former Southampton boss had issued an apology following his side's defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton.

Fans want Poch out at Chelsea

At the same time, Sports Brief previously reported on a section of Chelsea fans calling for Pochettino's axing as the club manager.

The renewed calls came after the Blues were humbled 4-2 by Wolves at Stamford Bridge, resulting in a drop to 11th in the EPL table.
