Super Eagles legends Nwankwo Kanu, Augustine Jay-Jay Okocha and Joseph Yobo were present on the sidelines to console the Nigerian team following their defeat to Ivory Coast in the final of the 2033 Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria were bidding to win the AFCON for the fourth time but fell on the final hurdle as they lost 2-1 to the Elephants courtesy of a Sebastian Haller winner in the last ten minutes of the encounter.
William Troost-Ekong had given the Super Eagles the lead in the first half, but Franck Kessie drew Ivory Coast level early in the second half before Haller sealed the win for the hosts.
After the final whistle, Kanu, Okocha, and Yobo made their way to the pitch to console the distraught Super Eagles players in an emotional moment of the team after the defeat.

The Nigerian contingent to the AFCON will return to Abuja on Monday following the conclusion of the tournament in Ivory Coast, the Nigerian Football Federation has confirmed.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi deleted all his posts on Instagram just hours after Nigeria’s devastating loss to Ivory Coast in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations, Soccernet reports.
The former Arsenal midfielder had faced harsh criticism from angry supporters following the Super Eagles' loss, as some blamed him for the defeat to the Elephants on Sunday night.
Iwobi featured in all of the Super Eagles' seven games at the tournament, as he was the creative link in the midfield for the team all through the competition.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Victor Boniface has vented his dissatisfaction with Nigeria's loss to Ivory Coast in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final by taking a jibe at the trophy.
Boniface, who was initially named to Nigeria's roster but had to withdraw due to injury days before the event, took to X (previously Twitter) to mock the trophy's appearance following the Super Eagles' 2-1 defeat.
The current AFCON trophy was originally awarded in 2002 and is a gold-plated cup designed and manufactured in Italy. Cameroon received the award for the first time when they won the tournament in 2002.
