  • Didier Drogba was not left out of the AFCON final in Abidjan
  • The Chelsea legend watched as Ivory Coast beat Nigeria
  • Ivory Coast are champions of Africa for the third time

Didier Drogba was all over the Alassane Ouattara Stadium on Sunday as Ivory Coast rallied back to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil.

The former Chelsea star, who was an ambassador for the tournament, was among the football legends that graced the final in Abidjan.

The 45-year-old brought the AFCON trophy to the stage before kick-off and saw his dream come true as his country won the tournament.

However, his celebrations after the Elephants levelled against Nigeria caught the attention of viewers and fans at the stadium.

In a video shared on social media, Drogba was in animated mode as he looked lost while jubilating as Franck Kessie headed home the equaliser.

Drogba lost in the final while playing for Ivory Coast in 2006 against Egypt. His teammate Emerse Fae in the 2006 final guided the Ivorians to their third triumph.

In the thrilling encounter, Nigeria opened the scoring before half-time through the powerful header of William Troost-Ekong.

Kessie levelled after the break after heading home a Simon Adingra corner before Sebastien Haller sealed the win with nine minutes remaining.

Kanu restless as Nigeria score

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that legendary Nigerian forward Nwankwo Kanu travelled to Abidjan for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final against host nation Cote d'Ivoire.

The former Arsenal attacker was at the Alassane Ouattara stadium in Ebimpe as the Super Eagles chase a fourth AFCON title.

Having started slow, the three-time champions broke the deadlock moments before half-time through defender and captain William Troost-Ekong.

Haller scores winner in AFCON final

Sports Brief also reported that Sebastien Haller netted the winner as Ivory Coast came from a goal down to beat Nigeria in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles took the lead before half-time through William Troost-Ekong, but Franck Kessie levelled after the break before Haller finished off the game in style.

The host dominated the early exchanges with Sebastien Haller coming close after meeting a cross from the left from the lively Simon Adingra. The Brighton forward went from creating to trying his luck from a distance.
