  • Bayern were outclassed by Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday
  • The Bavarians suffered a 3-0 defeat at the BayArena
  • It was a huge blow to Harry Kane, who is seeking his first career league title

Football fans all said the same thing as Bayern Munich were humbled 3-0 by Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga on Saturday, February 10.

Xavi Alonso’s side maintained their unbeaten run in the league this season as goals from Josip Stanisic, Alex Grimaldo, and Jeremie Frimpong condemned the defending champions to their third defeat of the season.

The visitors, who hope to win a 12th league title in a row, were second best at the BayArena and only managed one shot on target throughout the 9o minutes.

Their top scorer Harry Kane also endured a miserable night and barely had a sight at goal. According to Squawka, the England international only had two touches in the opposition box.

Bayern humbled, how it happened

Despite having most of the possession in the opening exchanges, Bayern could not handle the home team’s aggressiveness on the ball and eventually fell behind after being caught napping by their own player, Stanisic, who tapped in from a cutback.

Five minutes after the break, it was 2-0, with Spain international Grimaldo scoring his eighth league goal of the season per the Bayern website.

Frimpong also got in on the action after coming close several times in the game, slotting into an empty net after Bayern goalie Manuel Neuer went up to attack a corner kick.

In the end, Bayern could not cope as Leverkusen went five points clear at the top after 21 games.

Fans say Kane is cursed

There was a recurring theme on social media after Bayern’s defeat –Harry Kane.

Fans could not help but mock the striker, who was bought from Tottenham for £82million last summer.

Here are some reactions from fans:

@rebekkarnold:

"Is it possible that Harry Kane could have been the Spurs curse all along?"

@Sports_Doctor2:

"We all thought Harry Kane would finally break his trophy curse and win if nothing else the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich but it looks like that's not going to happen."

@Makanjila_23:

"Bayern is really ending the season without a trophy, the Harry Kane curse continues."

@ezele_nick:

"Harry Kane has carried the trophyless curse from Tottenham to Bayern Munich. His first match they lost a final and now they won’t win their customary league title. "

@Rich4ever71:

"I think the Harry Kane curse is the strongest curse ever."

@Emzyl_:

"Funny thing is that Harry Kane couldn't wait to play for Bayern, because it was like the surest bet of him ending his trophy drought, but the curse on his head is just too strong."

What next for Harry Kane and Bayern?

For Kane and Bayern Munich, focus will temporarily shift to the Champions League, where they face Lazio in the round of 16 first leg on Wednesday, February 14.

This will be followed by another away Bundesliga fixture against Vfl Bochum four days later.

Thierry Henry wants Kane to win trophy with Bayern

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Thierry Henry’s take on Harry Kane as the Arsenal legend admitted he wanted to see the England international win silverware with Bayern Munich.

Henry never showed any support towards Kane when the striker was at Tottenham because his obvious affiliation to North London rivals Arsenal.
