  • Erling Haaland was on target for Manchester City against Everton
  • This was the Norwegian’s first goal of 2024 after returning from injury
  • He remains the league’s top scorer with 16 goals

Erling Haaland was back amongst the goal for Manchester City as he netted a brace in his side’s win over Everton on Saturday, February 10.

The 23-year-old was given the nod to start by Pep Guardiola in his second appearance since a lengthy layoff by his standards.

He endured a difficult first half against the Toffees, registering less than 15 touches on the ball.

However, it would be a mistake to rule out the Norwegian, who eventually found his feet and a goal in the 71st minute.

In what had been a frustrating outing so far for the defending champions, they eventually found a way past Sean Dyche’s side as a corner kick fell to Haaland at the back post, and the FWA Footballer of the Year made no mistake with a smashing shot past Jordan Pickford.

Haaland secures brace for Man City

With the introduction of Haaland’s partner in crime Kevin de Bruyne to the game in the 57th minute, it was only a matter of time before the two combined for a goal.

Haaland’s second came in the 85th minute, as he latched on De Bruyne’s pass, shrugging off Jarrad Branthwaite before coolly slotting past the goalkeeper again.

That goal provided the much-needed cushion for City, who went top of the table with a crucial win.

Despite not playing in the Premier League since early December, no Premier League player has come close to displacing Haaland as the top scorer.

His brace against The Toffees took him to 16 goals in the league, two ahead of injured Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, per the Premier League website.
