Confederation of African Football president Patrice Motsepe claims that around two billion people worldwide have followed and watched the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations since it began on January 13.
After 50 games played so far, the tournament hosted by Ivory Coast has received enormous praise from football fans across the world for the quality of football and officiating witnessed in the tournament.
According to Complete Sports, Motsepe, in a press conference on Friday, disclosed that it is an achievement that Africans should be proud of while promising that the next edition in 2025 will be better.
“We have had close to two billion people watching AFCON globally. We should be proud as Africans and the next one will be even better.”

The 2023 AFCON will come to a close on Sunday, February 11, with hosts Ivory Coast and Nigeria’s Super Eagles playing in the final for a chance to lift the title in Abidjan.
Prophet predicts AFCON final result
Meanwhile, Prophet Dr Kan Ebube Muonso of the Power and Victory in Christ Church has predicted that Ivory Coast would edge Nigeria to win the title in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final, Daily Post reports.
The self-acclaimed prophet predicted that the referee would cause the error, that would hand the Elephants the title in a post on his church’s Facebook page on Friday.
Nigeria and the Ivory Coast are billed to contest the AFCON final in front of 60,000 supporters as the Super Eagles seek to win their fourth continental title while the hosts are gunning for their third.

FootballMotsepe refuses to confirm 2025 AFCON dates
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football, refused on Friday to announce the dates for the next Africa Cup of Nations, which would be held in 2025.
The tournament normally takes place every two years, but the current edition was delayed by six months due to fears over a clash with the rainy season in West Africa.
The Moroccan Football Federation this week issued a statement in which it claimed the tournament would take place in "summer 2025".
